April Anecdotes

Welcome back!

I am really enjoying monthly check ins and being able to offer a peek into all of the art I’m creating these past few months. I spent the remainder of March and the first half of April really working on two projects.

The first I have discussed here previously and it is the lovely sci-fi adventure romp that is Atlas Clarke. I doubled back on some of the first pages of the series and updated them so that all of the artwork is consistent and the spaces are recognizable throughout the book. I am really proud of all of the work we have done on this comic and it really pushed me to grow as not only a comic artist but as a true collaboration partner. I even went back and recreated an earlier cover for the book and am much happier with the results!

The second major project for this chunk of time was a painting for non profit, RAW Artworks in my hometown. In years past I have created several pieces for their annual auction and this year was similar. I was tasked with creating one painting for the auction and I took a similar approach to years past where I use the grooves and lines of wood canvas to develop an abstract landscape.

In the past I have also heavily relied on spray bottles to allow colors to bleed together and really create a watery / hazy feel. This time however I stuck with bold line and balance of color. I also incorporated chalk markers for individual lines within the landscape and to evoke the many layers of the mantle/crust of the earths surface. I used topology and water level maps as an influence of how to develop this painting and it was a true challenge not to be on an iPad and be able to undo mistakes or marks I didn’t intend.

It was exhausting but I am really satisfied with the work and so I present, “Electric Prairie” 20x30 mixed media on wood.

In other news Fenrir & The Escape From The Deep is officially at the printer and in production. I approved the digital proof of the book just the other day and expect to have the book in hand just in time for Free Comic Book Day in May! Im very excited to share this with you all, I’m very proud of the story and the look and feel.

Also in the works Legends Of Lys: Volume 3 continues on. I am currently working through pages on issue 13 which took a backseat with the above mentioned works. I am still making progress, release date on Volume 3 is uncertain but I suspect it will come out digitally first.

Legends Annual #3 is also in production; I’ve been working through the script and finalizing the ending to that tale, I will begin drawing that this spring in time for a fall 2023 release on the website!

With March-April moving so quickly FCBD will be here before we know it! Mark your calendars for 5/6/23 where you can come out for some free books, meet some creators and support your local stores! I will be at SilverMoon Comics in Salem, MA for the day. Stop by and say hey, pick up some books and support the day.

That’s all for now, catch you next month hopefully with some new art and announcements for shows in 2023.

Thank you
