May updates

Welcome back! I am fresh out from Free Comic Book Day 2023 and it was a great day! I was setup at Silvermoon Comics in Salem, MA for the day with fresh copies of Fenrir & The Escape From The Deep. I am happy to report I sold several copies of the trade and still have some available for anyone interested in picking one up! Huge thank you to everyone who came by to support me and the shop!

Along with participating in this first event of the year, I am continuing my work with the active projects I have on the docket; Legends Of Lys Vol 3 continues forward, I admittedly have slowed down some on my page progress as Im finding theres more content than ever to draw and include in these pages. So many small details that are helping to create atmosphere and urgency like smoke and fog, debris and rain.

pages like this have many more layers and complexities when coloring. I have to be mindful of each characters unique palette and design for this volume and as a result I need to double back and check the character design and make sure the continuity matches.

while working through these I also was helping to round out the last few Atlas edits for the trade; included in this were small touch ups on pages, uploads of completed work and a new double page spread for the title page which was a lot of fun to work through.

Throughout May I have also been experimenting with portrait work and how I approach creating a digital portrait. I started using model references and building out an image through many layers and opacity changes so I can get a more natural build on tonality and structure of these figures. I also tried to add a costume or spin of color at the very end of these portraits. These are part of practice for me and really deep diving into the tools I use all the time and looking for variety of approach. I am also going to be working on some portraits for a commission soon and wanted to loosen myself up and work differently than my comic work and figure this was the best way to start that. Enjoy looking at these portraits and catch me next month for some more updates on shows, legends volume 3 and other projects.
